Creel Center Hosts “Ancient Chinese Bronzes from the Shouyang Studio and Elsewhere: An International Conference Commemorating Twenty Years of Discoveries” Conference

The Creel Center for Chinese Paleography of the University of Chicago hosted an international conference entitled “Ancient Chinese Bronzes from the Shouyang Studio and Elsewhere: An International Conference Commemorating Twenty Years of Discoveries,” at the University of Chicago, November 5-7, 2010. Celebrating the opening of the special exhibition “Ancient Chinese Bronzes from the Shouyang Studio: The Katherine and George Fan Collections” which was held at the Art Institute of Chicago, November 5-December 31, 2010, the conference brought together twenty of the world’s leading scholars of ancient Chinese bronzes, and especially their inscriptions, for three days of presentations and discussions. July 2009 Graduate Student Workshop

In July, 2009, the Creel Center co-sponsored a graduate student workshop on paleography held at the Centre for the Study of Bamboo and Silk Manuscripts of Wuhan University, with visits as well to Shanghai and Changsha to view paleographic materials housed there. The workshop brought together students from throughout China, Taiwan and North America to study with some of the leading paleographers in China.
